Kay Moates’ artistry is not about Kay and yet she is the essential ingredient to the “wearable Zen moments” she so lovingly creates. Each stitch embodies her gifts of acceptance, love and generosity and her fundamental openness to the beauty of nature and the blessing of our connection to the world and each other.
A gifted dancer and teacher of dance, Kay spent a life time imparting the healing power of dance to others, most especially the children whose lives she touched.  For twenty-seven years she created and directed Imagination in Motion, a creative movement dance company for young children, where dance was inspired by all forms of art and accompanied by improvisational music by a pianist. Dance provided healing and sustenance to those she taught.
A wise woman by nature, she realized that the time had come to move away from dance, to remove the strain on her body as she aged. The yearning for expression that drove her would not grow silent, however, and she sought a new medium within which to continue.  The creation of Mindfulness Mantles became her new expression. “ From moving children through time and space to moving  fibers and stones into Mantles my work continues to focus on calling forth awareness to deepen life’s connections. Into the new I dance…” Fortunately for those of us whose lives she has since touched and whose bodies are now surrounded by the warmth and comfort of one of her Mindfulness Mantles, her outreach continues.
Kay creates mantles that are not mere ornamentals or simply clothing for warmth, although they are both of those things. Â More importantly, she creates wraps that are imbued with the spiritual and life giving powers of healing, comfort and the regenerative power provided through the practice of mindfulness.
