Plan a Day Ahead

When you take the time to plan ahead , you will find that you get more done. Take a few minutes each evening to write a “to do” list. You might want to buy a small notebook, or notepad, just for this purpose. Place it with a pen on your nightstand, or where you will have easy access in the evening. Get up in the morning and start your day by get on with the items on your list.  Knowing what the plan is ahead of time can also relieve stress,  a significant health benefit. Planning adds self-empowerment and control to your days, often lacking after retiring.

The Bigger Picture

Introspection or looking at the bigger picture in life is also a great habit to develop. Spend some quiet time thinking about where you are in life and where you want to be. Think about any long-term goals or plans that you have, and how you can achieve them. It may seem slightly morbid but looking to the future for your family can be a good idea as well.  Do you have things like life insurance or a will in place? If not, then it is time to read more and take the steps necessary to do so. The future will happen whether you’re prepared or not, and it will benefit everyone if you are.

Track Achievements

When you look back on your life, what are you most proud of? It may be family, career and work achievements, something personal, or a combination of them all. There is so much satisfaction when you step back and think of your own achievements. So take the time to think about your each one, no matter how big or how small. Make a note of what you are proud of, and keeping doing this from time to time. Look back through these notes when you need a reminder.

Distance Negativity

We are surrounded by so much that is negative. From things going on in the world to how people talk and act, it is easy to be drawn into it, and pulled down by it. So when you find you are in the presence of negative people, make a point to distance yourself. When you do, you will find that you have more energy and are more positive and productive. Negativity can sap your energy. Focus on what energizes you instead.
