The Best Tips for Aging Gracefully

There are as many different response to the process of aging as there are people.  Some are proactive in diminishing the effects time and doing everything they can to reduce the appearance of aging. Others prefer to let nature take its course. Here are few tips for aging gracefully that all might want to consider.

USE SUNSCREEN

It is not uncommon underestimate the impact of the sun’s UV rays on the skin.  They are, however, a major contributor to the appearance of lines and wrinkles, especially on skin that is regularly exposed and unprotected by clothing. Wearing sunscreen every day is an easy way to reduce this impact. Choose a brand that has a good reputation in sunscreens and take steps to incorporate it into your skincare routine. Many moisturizers and BB or CC creams now contain SPF, but do select a product with an SPF of 20 to maximize protection.

You may already use it on your face, but don’t forget your hands. They receive just as much sun exposure as the face and quickly show signs of aging when not protected. Consider applying sunscreen to your hands every morning, and be generous with the application for maximum benefit.

DAY & NIGHTTIME SKIN CARE

A skin care routine is advised whatever your age. Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be complicated to be effective. It is not necessary to use multiple products and spend excessive time and money using applying them. All that’s really needed is a daily moisturizer with an SPF of 20 or higher, an oil-based makeup remover and night cream. As long as the skin is kept clean, hydrated, and protected, it will look younger longer.

On occasion, you may want to add a serum or exfoliating scrub to buff away dead skin cells. However, whatever you incorporate into your daily routine will be beneficial, and consistency pays big dividends.

DRINK PLENTY OF WATER

Water, a simple and easily obtainable resource, can make a huge difference in the way one looks and feels. Drinking a substantial amount of water every day helps the body function at its best. After all, our bodies are made up of mostly water and our skin cells need water to stay hydrated and healthy.

Hydrating from the inside out also slows the signs of aging.  Start today to add water to your diet. Consider adding fresh fruit or cucumber to the water to improve the taste and make the process feel like an occasion.

EXERCISE AND POSTURE

Practicing posture is something many of us don’t think about, unless you had a mother like mine! Working in an office or at a computer is particularly destructive to good posture.  Sitting for long hours and hunching over a computer throws our body out of whack and contributes to aches and pains. Good posture not only contributes to your health and well-being, it adds to a youthful appearance.

Make sure you have good back support whenever your seated, whether in a care or at your desk at work. Also, consider incorporating stretches and/or yoga into your exercise routine, as well as regular aerobic exercise. Find an exercise or sport that you love doing, and it will be easier to keep doing and more enjoyable.

Whether you want to age gracefully or with a little helping hand, it’s important to understand that age comes to us all eventually, so embrace it!
