What are the policies of your care home?
Every hospice and care home has different policies in place that are going to impact people in different ways. For example, it may be important to you that your loved one has the opportunity to participate in a favorite activities or hobbies. Such features make it easier for your loved to transition into a new and unfamiliar environment.
Will my relative be happy here?
Last but not least, your loved one’s happiness is always the most important consideration. Talk to the people at each facility about this subject. Ask the staff what steps they take to interact with the patients. What effort do they make to ensure their residents happiness and how do they measure this? Is it important to the care home to provide residents with every opportunity to comfort and feel at home? This move may be their last. It is understandable that you want to make it as positive as possible for your loved one. Also, talk to other residents and their families to find out what they think about the care home.
These questions will get you started in your research of finding a comfortable, safe home for your loved one. It’s a difficult task, but the more research you do, the better the fit is likely to be.
