FACTORS IMPACTING AGING
You may not be in your twenties or thirties anymore, yet that doesn’t mean you should stop fighting the signs of aging. Reducing wrinkles and eliminating puffy eyes are excellent ways to boost your self-esteem and confidence levels. As you know, your mental health is as critical as your physical well-being. These are just a few of the factors impacting aging.
Of course, it’s hard to target specific areas when you are unsure of the causes. Many of them are well reported because the beauty industry is a big deal. Still, a handful goes under the radar, and they can have the biggest impact on your appearance.
Here are four factors impacting aging and their solutions.
Winter Sun & Aging
You wouldn’t leave the house without sunscreen in the spring and summer months. Rightfully so, you recognize the power of the sun and how it will impact your skin. Unfortunately, attitudes change during the colder seasons. Even though the UV rays aren’t as strong, they penetrate the atmosphere and reach your skin. Once it soaks up the sunlight, the rays can kill or damage cells and cause serious health risks. This leads to skin becoming less moist and elastic, which will enhance the signs of aging. Putting on sun lotion should be automatic, like brushing your teeth.
Meat-Centric Diet
Everybody understands the need to eat a nutritious, healthy diet. Without the right nutrients, your body won’t be able to limit the damage from natural processes, such as a reduction in collagen production. Collagen declines as you age, and it adds to the aging process as it helps maintain flexible skin that bounces back. While your diet may be relatively healthy, it’s not helpful if it contains too much meat. Vegetables are essential to your health as they have vitamin C and amino acids that are proven to boost collagen levels. Even if you don’t eat lots of red meat, you may still have an unhealthy balance.
Anxiety – A Factor Impacting Aging
Anxiety leads to stress, which causes all kinds of skin conditions. Whether it’s acne or eczema, it’s vital to reduce the impacts of strain on your body. Stress can really have a toll in your skin if you let it boil over. The key is to watch for the telltale signs. A single spot is enough to suggest you’re stressed, especially if you haven’t been in a great mood, as more cortisol leads to higher production of oil. When you know you need to chill, it’s vital that you find a release. Walking is a fantastic way to deal with thoughts and emotions if you require a non-intense activity.
Weight Loss & Gain
Gaining weight is never a good thing, but at least it doesn’t impact your skin. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case. When your body expands and contracts, your skin has to react to the changes. When you’re younger, it’s not too bad since you have more collagen and can bounce back pretty quickly. As you age, the loss and gain of weight stretches the skin, causing sagging as you can’t repair it as effectively.
That means it’s essential to maintain a steady weight throughout your golden years.

Excellent advice Dorothy. We must take care from the inside and out, and also get some exercise. I know that sitting too much isn’t good for anything, and it’s not a myth – if you don’t use it you lose it. Not just for losing weight, but staying limber is essential. I find Pilates is the best for me to stretch everything and it really limbers me back up. <3
I’ve been more active during the pandemic, a big upside of being stuck at home. I’ve been able to spend time gardening, refinishing furniture, painting and enjoying every minute of it. Trying to keep my mind off missing my grandson! Glad you stopped by Debby.
