YOUR STORY MATTERS
Life is turbulent. No amount of planning could have prepared us for months, and possibly years spent inside our homes, cut off from family and friends and unable to fulfill a one of our bucket list items. But, we are strong and courageous women, and we will get through these times just like we’ve done time and time again throughout our life.
MY PURPOSE TODAY
My purpose in writing today is not to give you tips or advice on getting through this. Instead, I’d like to invite you to turn to your own best wisdom. You have it in you. It may not be clear to you just yet, but everything you are experiencing is inviting you to call upon your deepest, richest well of guidance and support. An excellent way to get to these rich resource is through the vehicle of story.
STORY SYMBOLS
Locked within every life story is an abundance of symbolism that speaks not just to our single life, but to the life of all who are finding their way through today’s challenges. A woman whose husband is battling COVID-19 is gaining valuable insight into the process that if shared can lighten the load of another. The mother at home with teenage sons, while trying to work from home is being stretched like a gummy bear in the hands of a two year old. Can she find humor in this experience? If so, sharing it in the form of a memoir story may make another Mom take her situation a little less seriously.
At fifty, sixty, seventy and beyond, we are all experiencing a way of life we have never experienced before. Some of us are at home with a sick spouse. Others are at home and very much alone.
Each and every story told is a gift to another. You don’t have to be a writer. Just put pen to paper, or keys to a keyboard, and speak to us. Or, better yet, speak to yourself. Tell yourself your story. Put what you are experiencing in context. Makes sense of it through the written word. There is much to be mined there. You will see.
SHARE IT
Then share it. With us. Here. By entering the contest, not so much to win the grand prize, though you might, but to give a piece of yourself to others; to touch another; to lighten a load, add a brick to your legacy and spread a little hope. It’s a win win. I guarantee it.
