In the past, being stylish and comfortable were not things that could be accomplished together, or so we believed. As we get older, many of us are discovering that this does not have to be the case. Styles and norms and have changed significantly in our lifetime, and finding a look that is both stylish and comfortable is easier than ever. Read on to find out how look fabulous and feeling great too.
Know Your Personal Style
Knowing your own personal style is a tremendous asset when shopping for new clothes or searching your closet for new and interesting combinations from what the clothing you already own. But what if you don’t know what your style is? Many of us have forgone attention to what we like for what is “in” over the years. It’s time to let those out of date notions go and jump in to a style that feels absolutely like you.
First, think about what makes you feel comfortable. Comfort means different things to different people. It also may change from situation to situation. What you feel comfortable wearing when you’re running errands may be very different from what you would feel comfortable wearing when going out for dinner. The basics, however, are often the same.
When Do You Feel Comfortable?
Consider your lifestyle and the occasions you encounter. Wearing leggings and a T while hanging out at home may be your go to. But do you feel just as comfortable wearing leggings with a tunic top when going out for dinner with friends? Or do you prefer skirts, jeans and jewelry when going out? There are no right ways and wrong ways to dress anymore. Embrace your style and own it. You will always look great.
The best way to discover your style is through trail and error. Experiment and pay attention to how you feel, not to what you think others are thinking of you. Once you know your personal style, the comfort side of the decision is made for you. You will always be comfortable in something that you like.
Once you’ve discovered your comfort zone, adding the stylish piece is easy. Start with the basics and add a little zing, such as a chic hat, a cool belt, or put on some SAS shoes for women, and you will find you are instantly stylish and comfortable.
Look At Trends
Trends come and go, and that’s part of the fun! Change up your look by taking a little time to keep up with the trends. If you have young adult children, they will help you stay on top of the trends. Just watch and learn from what they are wearing. Get over the notion that “you’re too old” to join in the fun of trends, because we’re never too old to enjoy fashion.
Be aware that there is never only one trend happening at once. You might scroll through the fashion pages and see something that is popular, but that wouldn’t be comfortable. However, if you keep looking, you’ll soon come across something just as popular that has an element of comfort built in.
Choose items that are trendy that blend with your personal style. And, style is personal, so you don’t have to follow fashion to the letter. If there are elements of different styles you like and that you can combine with your comfortable look, go ahead and do it.
Look At The Details
Basics such as leggings, jeans, t-shirts, and so on are usually comfortable. That’s their sole function. Yet just because they are basics, and just because they are comfortable, doesn’t mean they have to be boring, or unfashionable. If you opt for a tee that has peplum sleeves or ruffles or a fashionable design, and so on, you can actively combine style and comfort. When you do this, you will automatically feel good about what you’re wearing.
It’s often the details that matter when making a stylish statement. That means you can focus on the comfort level you’re looking for and not compromise on a cute look. Being uncomfortable is never going to be a good look, no matter how on-trend you might be.
