4 HEALTHY WAYS TO ACCEPT AGING

accept agingIt isn’t easy to accept aging and the changes it brings when wherever you go you see articles and ads about how to look younger. It’s more common than not to dread wrinkles and sagging but it’s really important to take a look at what’s really important.

Aging gracefully isn’t about trying to look like a 20-something year old person. It is about living your best life and having the physical and mental health to enjoy it. Like a bottle of wine, you can get better with age with proper care.

We are all going to age. Worrying, fretting and resisting the process does far more harm than good. Instead, try these healthy tips and do what you can to accept aging. You will actually look and feel younger when you do everything you can to enjoy your life exactly as it is.

Gratitude is a state of appreciation for what you have, rather than longing for what you don’t.

There are so many reasons to be grateful, and it makes life much more fun. Embrace your aging body ages and do every thing you can to protect it. A healthy lifestyle will protect you against many illnesses such as cancer, diabetes and joint pain.

When you remember to think about what you are grateful for, it is much easier to accept the changes in your body and appreciate the wisdom that comes with age. Allow yourself to be happy with who you are and remember that you have conquered every challenge you’ve faced thus far.

Acknowledge Any Feelings of Fear or Anxiety

If you’re feeling older than your years, this may be due to fear or anxiety about the changes happening in your life – from partner status to work stresses. Obsessively focusing on these feelings may lead to health issues, such as heart disease or high blood pressure.

When you feel stressed or anxious, acknowledge the feeling. Write it down in a journal, take a walk or talk with someone you trust to help you deal with these feelings.

This will allow your body to appreciate the positive feelings while not obsessing over the negative ones. You can also opt for further help if these tips do not work. For instance, you can enroll in a behavioral health treatment facility to receive specialized support in dealing with various mental issues.

Plan for the Future

It’s inevitable that the future is ahead of us and that we’re all going to grow old one day. Perhaps some may live closer to 100 years old than others and still live independently. Others may find it more challenging and need hospice services in the latter years.

It’s important that you’ve planned for the future as this is a great way to acknowledge that we all age and will reach that time in our lives eventually.

Accept the Changes in Your Life and Body

You can’t change your age, but you can work with it to be healthier. Accepting the changes that come with age is vital to feeling “younger” than you are. Too often we fight the changes that come into our lives. From a health perspective, it is far better to put down your guard, look for what can be learned from the changes and the silver lining.

Gratitude and acceptance, embraced as a daily practice, will not only make your life less stressful and more enjoyable, it will help keep you healthier.

Look for a Silver Lining

No matter how bad a situation is, there’s always something positive in it. Try and look for a silver lining as part of your practice and goal to accept aging. Reflect on what you would have done differently now that you are older and wiser. This can help you treasure the experiences that have brought you to where you are now.

There is joy to found in life regardless of how old you are. You just have to look for it. So, why not take some time to think about what makes you happy, and what brings you joy? Take time each day to appreciate the positive things in your life and accept aging as it comes.
