For so long the golden years seemed like they were very far away. But once we hit 50, we wake up to the realization that they are just around the corner! It is hard to know what to expect in life after fifty. The good news is that as we age, our priorities shift and we start looking for different goals than those of our younger self. Overall, the goal in life should be to make sure we are taking steps towards a more fulfilling lifestyle. And during your golden years, we’re more often in a place to di the things we’ve always wanted to do. Age gives us more confidence and financial stability.
In order for you to make sure that your golden years are successful, it is important to set goals before you retire. Knowing what you want will help with a lot of things in life, such as finding a new career or staying healthy in the future. As people age, there is a tendency to begin to focus on how much time is left rather than living in the present moment. Our golden years are better spent making sure that each moment is a happy one and living without regrets. Let’s take a look at what some of your goals can be.
More Experiences
Focusing on having more experiences in life and making memories is a worthy goal. People often believe they are experts at making memories, but it can be tricky to actually create memories that are meaningful and stand the test of time. One way is to be intentional about how you spend your time and who you spend it with. Take time to evaluate who you spend your time with now and how these relationships impact your level of joy and happiness. Begin to ensure that your experiences with others are positive ones.
Another way to have more experiences in life is by traveling. It is an excellent way to learn new things and broaden our perspective on your life. Life experiences don’t always have to take place in a foreign country to make you feel like you’ve had an enriching experience. You can also make your own memories by traveling within the United States or even within your own community.
Live Independently
While many fifty and older are looking into Assisted Living for their future selves or their parents, if it’s important to you to keep your independence, start working on this goal right now. Even if you’re years away from this point, preparation needs to begin now.
It’s important to be sure that you’re looking after your health and staying active. Keeping active can keep you strong, fit, and mobile into your 60s, 70s, 80s and onwards. You could also make sure that you have a good support system with friends and family. It’s also a great idea to have access to the health insurance that you need too.
Improve Your Health
Or do you want to focus on your health? Maybe you want to know how you can take care of yourself to age well? In the process of getting healthy, it is important to have a good diet, maintain a healthy weight, and exercise regularly. It also helps to find time to do this on a daily basis. This can be something that then gives you the energy to do much more with your retirement and golden years.

I’d really like to know how others are creating experiences and making memories in this time of covid. Yes I have my vaccines however I still get a sense that much travel is out of my particular picture which is something I so enjoy and was expecting to do much more of. Share what you are doing?
It’s been a real challenge during Covid, hasn’t it! The women in the Aging Abundantly group have spent more time doing new and creative projects. They’ve taken up new hobbies and expanded old. Zoom has become a staple of life for workshops, classes, and social gatherings. Since we can’t get out, it’s become a good alternative. I took a writing workshop recently that was handled completely online with message boards, video, and Zoom. Travel is mostly of the “armchair” variety for now, but it’s a good time to study up and plan for a trip when things ease up. Feelings of isolation have been the hardest to manage and is a common complaint. The group has developed a strong bond because we are all facing the same challenges and looking for answers.
