Research shows that daily support can improve the health and well-being of the elderly. Whether you are in your senior years, or you are caring for someone who is, consider the following benefits.
1) Mental health benefits
Older adults who struggle with mental health issues often benefit from a strong support support system. Seniors who have regular social contact are less likely to experience depression and anxiety.
I remember so well the changes my mother exhibited during her elderly years when she came for a visit. She’d arrive at our home lethargic and disinterested in eating. Within days her hearty appetite returned, as did her cheerful disposition and eagerness to participate in activities. Nothing had changed but having people nearby who cared about her.
Studies show that those who interact with others and feel supported are more positive about their overall health and life satisfaction. If you, or a loved one, is feeling down and disinterested in usual activities and interests, spending time with friends or family members is likely to be beneficial.
2) Physical benefits
Daily support can also help you stay physically healthy. Again, studies have shown that seniors who have regular social contact are more likely to stay physically active and have a lower risk of developing chronic health conditions. If you’re looking to improve your physical health, begin by spending time with friends and loved ones. You may just find that you become increasingly interested in a wide array of physical activities that will not only improve your quality of life, but your physical health as well.
Senior home care services can provide you with the help you need to stay healthy and independent. Home care services can include things like light housekeeping, transportation, and personal care assistance. Look into senior centers. They are a great place to make friends and stay involved in pleasurable activities.
3) Emotional benefits
In addition to the mental and physical health benefits, having daily support can also provide you with emotional benefits. According to a study conducted by the University of California, seniors who had regular social contact were more likely to report feeling happy, optimistic, and loved.
So if you’re looking for a way to improve your overall well-being spending time with friends and family is a great option. It may be difficult at first to step out of your complacency, but it’s worth the effort. If you are caring for an elderly loved one who is showing signs of depression, take steps to help them get involved with other people.
Whether you’re looking for mental, physical, or emotional benefits, regular social contact can help you achieve all of your goals.
4) How to find the perfect senior care home
If you’re a senior citizen looking for regular social contact, finding the perfect senior home care agency is often the answer. When searching for a senior care home, there are a few things to keep in mind.
First and foremost, you’ll want to find a home that offers the services you need. For example, if you’re looking for light housekeeping or transportation assistance, be sure to check the home you’re interested in provides those services.
Second, make sure that the home is located in a safe and convenient area.
Third, choose a home that has a staff that is knowledgeable and experienced in working with seniors. When it comes to finding the perfect senior care home, research is key.
Regular, even daily support, can provide so many benefits to the mental, physical and emotional well-being of all of us. For many, the right senior care home, can provide just the support and personal interaction to improve all aspects of one’s life.

Undoubtedly so. Most of us, even if still able to manage our lives crave for emotional support so we may go through many turbulences that seem hard to handle. It is sad though to be faced with superficial affection which does not add value to the way one feels. I have also noticed, personally, the reluctance due to timidness as well as pride to ask for this kind of attention. It should be offered out of compassion, sensitivity and kindness. Thank you for expressing your consideration.
People who have not been where we have been, or are, often can not offer comfort. In this country at least, we were taught – and many still hold such beliefs – that asking for help and support is a sign of weakness. I do find women our age to be among the most supportive and compassionate, not all, but many and we’re getting better as asking for that support. We can face anything if we feel loved, cared for and valued. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts, Xanthoula.
