HOME ORGANIZATION & IMPROVEMENTS

home organization & improvementsIt’s no secret that the pandemic launched all manner of home organization and improvements. For us, it was the perfect opportunity to take the steps necessary to adapt to Scott’s decreased mobility. The downtime afforded by the pandemic gave us an opportunity to undertake a home upfit.

We’ve enjoyed the results so much, I decided to share a few of the things we discovered with you. Of course everyone’s needs and tastes are different, but today I’m going to pass on to you a few of my favorite Amazon purchases. I hope you’ll find them useful!  Buying online presents all sorts of challenges, and I’ve come to value recommendations from friends. I’m always eager to return the favor!

IT’S ALLERGY SEASON! Yikes, is it ever!

I’ll start with two things I purchased during the pandemic and am so grateful to have right now. Allergies are horrible this year!

LEVOIT Air Purifier for Home Allergies I did a ton of research on air purifiers before purchasing two of these. Living in a rural area of North Carolina, I struggle with allergens. Add our two cats to the mix and I wanted a quality air purifier that not only cleans the air but lasts more than one season. Levoit Air Purifiers are doing the job. I bought one and liked it so much I bought a second one. I keep one going all the time in the bedroom and the other I move around as needed. They are quiet and efficient, and changing the filter is a breeze. They are available in a variety of sizes.

AllerEase Maximum Allergy Pillow Protector – I love these! They are such a good quality for theHome Modifications price that I bought a second package and now have one on every pillow in the house and apartment.

Breathe easier at night!

GETTING ORGANIZED

2.5-Quart ProKeeper Grain Storage Container After we completed our kitchen remodel, we decided it was time for simplifying and home organization. Storage containers were on the top of our list. We also wanted to make things easier for Scott as he is the primary cook in our family. The round canisters we had were not working. First, we couldn’t see what was in them, and their shape was an inefficient use of our limited space.  We decided to purchase these containers and absolutely love them for our go-to items like sugar, oatmeal, flour, etc. They’re stackable, keep contents ultra fresh, even brown sugar!  We have no problem seeing what’s in them or how much is left. Each container comes with its own measuring scoop, a feature that eliminates one more step when cooking.

home modifications storageHOOJO Refrigerator Organizer Bins – Next on our home organization list was the refrigerator.  This was one of my favorite purchases. What a deal! I’ve seen these plastic bins in Lowe’s and elsewhere for $15 each. At $19 for eight, you can’t beat the price. And, they’ve worked perfectly to help us keep the refrigerator’s contents organized. I have no idea why I wait so long to organize my life! It not only has reduced my stress level, but makes everything easier. It’s easier to clean and to know what needs to be replaced. I no longer find three jars of jelly in the back of the refrigerator!

OVERFLOWING CLOSETS

home modificationsFab totes 6 Pack Clothes Storage – When we decided to turn our downstairs into a rental space, we had to do some serious downsizing. We have very limited closet space and it was time to maximize what we have. I got rid of everything I felt I could and then started organizing.

This 6 pack of storage totes not only helped me organize my blankets and extra seasonal items, I had enough to use in my bedroom closet to store off season clothes. The clear panel allows me to see what’s in them, and the handle makes them easy to move and lift down from the top shelf.

If you’re downsizing and/or simplifying your life, I hope you’ll check back here often for more tips and treasures. I was dreading the process, but the more I do, the more I want to do. As clutter is removed and our living space is opened up, it becomes easier and easier to treasure what you love and get rid of what really doesn’t matter. Life is more comfortable and the littles things more enjoyable.
